If you squint real hard you might be able to see your best self.
Just like you would use glasses to help you see more clearly, you can use a life coach to help you gain clarity on your goals for the future. I would guess that most people attracted to life coaching already have a pretty good life, but they are the ones that don’t want to just settle for good. Too often I see people think that all they deserve is a comfortable life. They are afraid to really go after what they truly want. They are limited by beliefs about age, money, location, education, or other factors. You are only limited by your own beliefs.
Left to set goals on your own, you may not reach for those goals that make you slightly or even very uncomfortable. You truly can have it all- money, relationships, health, purpose, knowledge. You often can’t see your own potential because of the beliefs you currently hold true. The life coach is going to help you identify the beliefs you have, help you create new beliefs, and push you to go beyond good to great.
I love this quote: ‘if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” A life coach is there to help you find that goal that falls between “too easy to achieve” and “too unbelievable to even attempt.” If you had asked me at any point in my life up until age 39 if I believed that I could ever run a half marathon, I would have laughed in your face. I remember believing that I couldn’t even run a 5K race. In high school, I couldn’t even run the mile in gym class, but one day I decided to just sign up for a 5K with my young daughter. I knew that even in a worst-case-scenario I could walk 3.1 miles without collapsing. Well lo-and-behold, I did finish that race and absolutely loved it! It inspired me to run more of them. Years later I decided to set a goal that was far from my comfort zone, to run a half marathon before turning 40, and darned if I didn’t achieve it! I’ve since signed up for that same half marathon every year. I proved to myself that if I believe it, I can achieve it.
I’m now on to my next uncomfortable goal of creating a lean, toned body while in my 40s, even though I never believed I could lose weight and look better than I did decades ago at this age. I’m actually well on my way, and I continue to surprise myself with what I am able to achieve. I’ve had this goal for years. I was patient and believed that I would eventually find a way to achieve it. I took action and would research diets, exercise, supplements, and read articles about other women who had achieved the results I desire. Eventually through trial and error and changing my limiting beliefs into believing in myself, I am now successfully seeing results.
Change doesn’t happen over night. It’s easy to get sidetracked or lose faith on your journey to achieve your goals. The coach is there to keep you on track, hold you accountable, and remind you why you set your goals. The aim of all coaches is to push the person they are training to their very best potential. It makes no difference if the person is competing athletically or competing in the game of life. It’s human nature to take the easy route, but that path isn’t likely to get you to great. Invite a life coach to join you along your way and see if they can’t help direct you towards your best self.
How far could you go? What would you love to do but might not currently believe you could achieve? Are you ready to get uncomfortable?
