There are moments in our lives when everything changes. It is our human nature to label things as a good change or a bad change, but that is really just our perception and definition of the change. Vishen Lakhiani, author and CEO of Mindvalley, recently spoke on a podcast about the times that his life went through major changes, and he called them times of beautiful destruction. When his old way of life was destroyed, it opened up the possibilities for a new life. His life changes revolved around moving and his business. Hearing his perspective reminded me that even though I am going through a beautiful destruction in my career right now, I have to stay focused on the beautiful life that may spring from this change in my life.
For most the pandemic has created some kind of beautiful destruction in their life. It might not be as drastic as losing a job or losing a loved one, but the way we lived before is gone and now we adjust to this new reality. While it’s easy to define this current time as negative, it’s really important to still find the good. So many of my friends have been able to save money, get a great loan rate, and purchase a home this year. I lost my hectic travel life, but I got to spend every day with my aging dogs and was blessed to have that special time as one has recently passed away. The pandemic made us all slow down and take a pause. It’s ok to acknowledge that this time has not been pleasant, but don’t give up on the belief that you may look back and appreciate where you eventually end up.
Today is election day in the US, and I know the tensions are high. No matter the outcome, it’s going to feel like a destruction to a large number of people. I would like to tell you to remain calm, don’t assume the worst, and just take it hour by hour and stay focused on the present. Whatever happens, you will get through it. Maybe it will be the big change that will spark a change in you life. They say time heals all wounds, and if you look back at moments that seemed awful at the time, I’m betting you can find something good that came from the situation. It certainly seems that everyone has become more politically aware over the last few years and seeing the record number of voters in this election is something to be happy about, even if that’s the only thing you can find to be happy about.
Love to you all during this trying time. What beautiful destruction have you survived? How are you better for it now?
