Where the Magic Happens

We live in a fast paced world with thousands of distractions and endless connection to information through technology. But most of the most successful achievers in our society do one thing daily that they say is truly a key to their success. What is it? Meditation

I made a commitment to a daily meditation practice this year. I’m only 2 months in and already see a difference in my ability to maintain peace in my thoughts. Recently, I heard something that in the past would sent my thoughts into a negative spiral for days, however this time I was able to recognize and release the thought after only a brief period of time. Just like exercise helps build your muscles and improves your cardiovascular health, meditation trains your brain to find peace and builds your ability to control your thoughts. Meditation can seem hard in the beginning, just like exercise, but over time and consistent practice the benefits will compel you to stick with it because you just feel so darn good!

“I can’t stop the thoughts, or sit still for more than a few seconds.” “I don’t want to chant or get all new-agey.” Well, there are many different kinds of meditation and mindfulness. Some meditation is done while walking, some is done lying down, and some involves paying attention to your thoughts instead of blocking them from your meditation practice. There is a meditation style that will fit into your life. So get past the excuses, and make the commitment to adding meditation to your routine. Take action to find even just 5 min a day to improve your life.

The magic of meditation comes from taking time just for yourself. Who is that energy, that life force behind the thoughts in your head? We are not our bodies. We are not even our thoughts. We are a spark in an endless universe of energy. Taking that time to connect with the all this is, will bring peace to the here and now. It takes you beyond what you are now, beyond all you have been in the past and helps you shape your future.

Have I sold you on it yet? Yes, download an app, sign up for a class, or just take a quiet reflective walk outside. No, then maybe the new book by Emily Fletcher, Stress Less, Accomplish More: Meditation for Extraordinary Performance, will help convince you of the many health benefits of meditation as well as learn how to meditate. There are some great phone apps such as Headspace, Soulvana, and Daily Habit that all get you meditating in only a few minutes today. I’m sure YouTube is full of meditation videos, and many cities even have meditation centers where you can go learn from an instructor.

A few minutes of disconnecting from the “real world” could just open you up a whole new world beyond what you have ever imagined. It’s not gonna take you anywhere scary. It might help you find your true self, eliminate some negative thoughts, and connect to that silent awareness far beyond any of your conscious thoughts.

5 min a day could shift your life. Are you ready to bring a little magic into your life? Can you make time now? When you open up some space in your thoughts, you just might be surprised at all the positivity that flows in to fill it.

Try it and share your experiences with me. Let’s bring some magic to this world!
