The Best is Yet to Come

I hate aging. While I love the wisdom and maturity that comes with each passing year, the reality of our physical body changing with age is unavoidable. I’m middle-aged. If I’m to believe the palm reader I met in India, my life is already half over. Yikes! I need to kick it in gear.

Recently I’ve been struggling with my self esteem. I had a little dip in self confidence as I focused a little too much on noticing that I can never get my youthful appearance back. I acknowledge that I’m very happy that I still look great “for my age,” but I have to make peace that I am in fact older now.

As I cringed at some pictures and thought about how I miss that firm skin I used to have, I had to remind myself that with this new phase of life also comes new self awareness. As a young girl I was always unfocused, and I never knew my potential. I now have the awareness to rise above judging my appearance and can decide to instead look at how I can create change in the world. At the end of my life, people will not remember how I looked, but how I made them feel.

We live in a culture that is beauty and youth-obsessed. It’s so easy to fall into negative thinking about ourselves. We are exposed to so many more people in the world through social media, and often we focus on those we wish we could look like. But I challenge you to start looking beyond the physical appearance of yourself and others, and to look inside and see what someone is giving to the world. Are you creating good vibes? Is that person you follow on Instagram lifting up your energy?

I can’t stop the aging process, but I can stop my negative self talk. The best is yet to come in my life, because I am choosing that path!! This brief period of self-reflection actually reminded me to go out and do more. I’m more dedicated to jumping into my goals, and my sagging skin just reminds me of the wisdom I am bringing with me.

You can turn any negative into a positive with the right energy. When you fill your life with positive action and good vibes, there’s little room left for the negative.

Do you struggle with aging? Would you like to shift your perspective? I’m here to help; reach out and find out how life coaching can change your life.
